WHO ARE WE ? - WHO ARE WE ? - WHO ARE
|
“WHO
ARE
YOU ?”
…is a question
that more and more people are asking us before signing petitions or
relaying information and mobilization.
|
|
“Mobilize Humanity”
Initiative was created…
èto shed
light on the unacceptable plight of the 101 Sri Lankan and
Nepalese refugees and asylum seekers first detained by
the Thai immigration police in Bangkok,
èin order
to mobilize the relevant authorities to find a solution that puts
an end to their detention.
|
|
MOBILIZE HUMANITY is a non
political, secular INITIATIVE, launched after the 2nd of July
2007, as on this day, 34 people including 18 children were raided and
imprisoned by the Thai immigration police.
|
IT IS NOT AN N.G.O
As the people who contribute to this initiative stay in
various parts of the world (France, Spain, Thailand, England, Canada, Sri
Lanka…), our priority wasn’t to create an N.G.O., but to spend our energy
to relay the mobilization in the places where we live.
|
|
MOBILIZE
HUMANITY is an OPEN Initiative,
as every
person who considers
that the
situation of these detainees is UNACCEPTABLE,
and can
spend a part of his/her time
to relay
the mobilization is
WELCOME.
This
is the reason why press releases, petition forms, information texts… are
free of access in your « toolbox » page, in order
that everyone can relay the information and mobilization towards the
people, medias, artists, politicians, organizations around him/herself.

LET’S SAY
WE ARE
A KIND OF NETWORK
|
A
FEW PEOPLE IN THIS NETWORK ARE IN CHARGE OF
·
GATHERING THE INFORMATION (ABOUT THE
DETAINEES, THE EVOLUTION OF THEIR SITUATION, THE MOBILIZATION’S EVENTS, THE
MOVEMENTS OF THE AUTHORITIES TO SETTLE THIS PROBLEM…)
·
MAKING IT AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE THROUGH
VARIOUS MEANS AND ESPECIALLY THE WEBSITE
·
RELAYING TOWARDS AUTHORITIES (UNHCR,
EMBASSIES, THAI AUTHORITIES) THE SIGNATURES OF PETITIONS, MESSAGES AND
MOBILIZERS’ ACTIONS
|
|
BUT WHAT GIVES POWER
TO THIS NETWORK IS THE FACT THAT MANY PEOPLE,
IN MANY COUNTRIES, RELAY THIS INFORMATION
AND MOBILIZATION BY THEIR OWN MEANS
·
ORGANIZE EVENTS AND CAMPAIGNS
·
COLLECT SIGNATURES FOR PETITIONS
·
MAKE HUMAN MESSAGES FOR THAI
AUTHORITIES
·
INFORM THEIR MEDIAS, ARTISTS, POLITICIANS,
ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THEM
·
… ( ç MEANS ANY OTHER IDEA
FOR MOBILIZATION IS WELCOME!)
·
SEND THE INFORMATION TO THE WEBSITE SO
IT CAN BE PUBLICIZED
|
|
AND IF ALL THIS UNBELIEVABLE STORY OF
REFUGEES’ IMPRISONMENT WAS A JOKE…
HOW CAN YOU BE SURE WE ARE TELLING THE
TRUTH ABOUT THIS SITUATION???
Of
course, before getting involved in a mobilization, you need to be sure it
is not a stupid joke, as so much fake information can be found on the net.
Except our website, not many people speak about and publicize the situation
of these detainees, BUT a few reports, recently written by well known
organizations and institutions are available on the net:
-
a report of JRS (Jesuit Refugee
Services) was published by Reliefweb network: “THAILAND: CRACKDOWN ON UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS” at the following address: http://www.reliefweb.int/rw/RWB.NSF/db900SID/EGUA-75LNYL?OpenDocument
-
an other one named : 2007 Nansen Award Testimonies - Thailand:
asylum seekers and refugees detained indefinitely, is online on the JRS
Website at the following address: http://www.jrs.net/news/index.php?lang=en&sid=2650
-
the NGO Statement in the General Debate of the UNHCR’s 58th Executive Committee (that took place between 1st and 5th October 2007) is a PDF document that can
be found by typing on a research motor the words “1-5
October 2007. NGO Statement. Agenda Item 4. General Debate.” Go to
the www.refugees.org result and check
the chapter “The Asylum Process”, end
of page 5.

to ensure that
Human Rights of the most vulnerable
people are respected,
Believe in the power of Humanity
for mobilization in situations
that seem desperate,
We appeal to an urgent
world wide mobilization
for these detainees,

before the situation creates
irremediable consequences
on the lives of these children, families
and people.
